Summa Summarum 2011, vol.1

This year (calendar, not season) I've been lucky enough to see a total of 5 works, ballet that is. 2 of them during the same night, one of them twice - during the same day! :D I want to write about them separately, but since I haven't done it yet, I have bit of a suspicion about it... For now I'll sum them up and later maybe share my thoughts more.

The first one was Romeo & Juliet, Cranko's coreography, on 30th of April. Stars of the show were Tiina Myllymäki and Jani Talo.

The second/third was the night with 2 works, The Blood Wedding / Scheherazade, in September. I'm embarrassed to say, but I've forgotten the details! Have to check them later :)

The fourth was Cinderella, new coreography (by Terence Kohler) with new music (by Lera Auerbach). I was surprised to like it as much as I did :)

The fifth was of course my birthday, the day of 2 x Nutcracker! :D First Clara/Prince-couple were Salla and Jaakko Eerola, second were Petia Ilieva and Nicholas Ziegler (what an amazing prince he was, might I add...).

At the moment I'm ill, not having the energy to do much. Luckily there are works to see online, too :)

Joulukalenteri - Christmas Calendar - vol. 22

Today is my birthday and to celebrate it I'm going to see our National Ballet's Nutcracker - twice! :D Managed to get a ticket also to the extra day performance. Hello to all of you sitting in the audience today!

Joulukalenteri - Christmas Calendar - vol. 9

Hupsista... Eilen en ehtinyt luukuttaa, tänäänkin viipyi näin myöhään julkaisut. Mutta kivaa tämä näin kerrallakin on! :)

Wooops... Yesterday I didn't have time to publish a calendar post, today it took me this late to do anything. But it's fun to make it double! :)

The Nutcracker is familiar to balletomanes, dancers and almost all others. The lovely music by Tchaikovsky and a real fairytale plot. Out Finnish National Ballet is rumoured to leave it for a couple of years from their repertoire, but I won't speculate it more here (as there's nothing published on the subject anywhere). Instead, I'm going to tell you my favorite piece from the work and it sure is the Chinese dance! :) It's often called the Tea-dance also, with a chinese flavour to it. As I mentioned in my Ballet week posts, I've been performing it with my class twice (as a kid). First I was a dragon (part of it's body, to be exact), later on a small Chinese person. For the 9th day's memory I'll choose some photos and my all-time favorite on video - The Mushrooms from Disney's Fantasia :)
